Which brands did all of u use and what's the best one? Does it really matter at all or speaker wire is speaker wire and that's it:confused:

i am using kicker hyper flex speaker wire. I know some brands don't have as many threads and aren't as tighten so leaves pockets which allows noise in speakers. Any one confirm this?

I have a friend that used to do professional sound testing. He builds very expensive speakers and enclosures. He swears by solid copper, don't know why. He does very little 12V stuff, but I trust him for most of my sound gear advice.

you'll probably get better information on an audio forum, but watch out. There will be plenty of peeps shoving monster cable down your throat because it comes in pretty packaging and it's hyped up. Nothing wrong with that, but you're looking for facts. You could also hop over to a physics geek forum and see what they have to say.

With 14 or 16 ga you should be fine. As far as what type of wire, it doesn't make a difference really and anyone who says they can tell a difference is probably bs'ing you.

I picked up a 100ft spool of 16ga from monoprice.com for like $10.

I run 16 guage to the front speakers and had left over 8 guage power wire for the amp....... so I figured id use it for the sub so I guess that would make it ummm 8 guage lmao sorry if that sounds dumb. I got the idea from a guy named steve meade for those he's pretty good at what he does

there's a lot of opinions floating around on the necessity of expensive cables in car audio applications. IMO, you buy decent cable that fits your needs.

the car audio environment is terrible to begin with so any differences due to cheaper cabling is going to be inaudible.

as for speaker wire, just buy something that fits your power tranmission needs. 12AWG will work fine up to about 750W, 16AWG maybe up to 200W. you just don't want too small of a cable, because smaller means less ampacity, which means higher internal resistance, which means you have power loss on the cable itself, which means not all of your amplifier power is reaching your speaker.

12AWG may be hard to fish through the door grommets. so for you i would suggest 16AWG. find something with a smaller jacket so it'll be easier to work with.

Expensive speaker wires are mostly a sham. Like what the flapper said, your car is so damn noisy, it won't make a damn of difference. Go with transmission needs (ie x gauge for y distanct @ z watt), not marketing bull crap.

BTW i started the thread but nobody seems to know. I'm running aftermarket navi and xm radio. both antennas r installed on a back of the car(one one trunk lid the other on the roof) both wires run along the car all the way on the back. Now they run on the left and on the right side each. The question is since I'll be installing new sound system I'll have to run them both antennas either on the right side with speaker wires or on the left with power cable for the amp. Where should I run them? Or it doesnt matter. Please help
