Well I've decided to come back to an IS300 after a few years of various cars. I used to have a 5SP IS300 but thinking maybe an Auto this time for FI. What is everyone's thoughts? I can't stand the Auto IS350 I own. Perhaps Manual?

Give me some advice.

I'm a fan of standard cars. But with an IS300 E-Shift is the way to go!

Definately go with a manual. I feel like I pay attention better in a manual.

Depends on your goals for it really. You've got two other cars that have manual transmissions and that are performance oriented, so maybe having an e-shift might not be a bad solution for daily driving. I like my E-shift just fine, especially since it's a DD. And like you pointed out, if your goal is to boost the car it will be nice to have the stronger transmission... just pop in a VB upgrade and you're good to go.

just pop in VB, Raybestos blue clutch packs, sprag and sun gear upgrades and you're good to go.

Fixed it for you.:)

I'd also throw in a higher stall torque converter and definately a LSD if it didn't come with one.

it's weird bc im def not new to the car scene but i am with the is' and usually the autos r harder to take more control of the car. like u cant bring it to its full potential, but with the e-shift i guess its like a manual but its still not there yet. am i right or..?

Auto is also better for boost because the turbo doesnt fall off (fall out of boost) when shifting, just floor it and you have boost all the way to 5th gear. For those that dont know it does this because it keeps a load on the motor the whole time and you have to have load on the motor to build boost, this is why you cant build any boost in a manual when the car is in neutral or the clutch is depressed. I have ridden in an auto awd talon before, totaly different car i know, but it was a total different experence from driving a manual awd talon. I say do it if you have other 5 speed cars, thats my plan.

Autos are mainly better because their trannys can hold more power. The w55 should really be swapped out at anything after 300hp. Automatic transmissions still shift but with manuals obviously we control the shifting. You can't build boost when a manual is in neutral, but with a lightened flywheel and short shifter, you can shift a lot faster to shorter the neutral time. If you are going to go turbo in the future, have a hp range in mind and think about that when you decide between an auto and manual

There are pros and cons to auto and manuals, but I love my manual. Also, the fact that they are pretty rare to find adds to it. Everyone is always impressed when they see I drive a manual lexus.

but i'm planning to get a '03-'05 e-shift bc manual gets really annoying around new york when u gotta down shift every like 5 seconds from traffic. loll, but i actually did not kno that about autos that it doesnt fall out of boost.

Well not everybody boosts...

So a lot of people like manuals because they have full control over their car... and a 3rd pedal to play with.

I personally like the e-shift... because when you feel like cruising you can keep it in auto... and when you wanna shift yourself... you can push the buttons. But the control is still not the same as a manual.

there are button on the steering wheel. Upshift on the front and downshift on the back. You put the car in M mode and a display on the dash shows what gear you are in. You cannot shift into first gear but can use every other gear. It doesnt lock the tranny thought:( so when you step on it in fifth it will downshift for you.
