rotary swapping an is?? this car feels really heavy compared to my ae86..lol. i could see someone swapping in a rotary motor into a toy of a car like a corolla but the is300 is a pig!

when you said "something smaller" i immediately thought some type of jdm/beams 3STGE swap or something..hehe :)

Why not just rebuild the stock motor w/ supra internals and boost it?

dont take it like im hating, i dont care what you do to your car, i am just curious.

anyways, good luck and keep updating the thread w/ pics :)

well this is how i look at it and i dont think your hating...
1)a 1995 fd rx7 weights 400 pounds less and comes with more HP and the same amount of torque stock with 1 mpg less then a IS300.
2)a is300 chassie compeletly stripped down should be able to lose 300 lbs if done right and all the info i could find on the weight of the 2jz is "supposedly" 100 pounds more then a REW..so just swaping the engines i lose 100 lbs..
3) if i keep the 2jz, boost it and strip the car down, the weight balance will be off and the car will always want to "push", so with the rotary the motor will be back by the fire wall making it more balanced..
4)I think it would be cool to see something else

so bad news today..i found out the frame unibody needs to be replaced and its going to cost 2 grand through a friends shop.. The frame was fixed after the wreck but they are afraid its going to rip it self apart drifting...so my options are to pay that or send another 3 grand and import a altezza...since i already have 3 cars with no room from more and I'm still trying to finish school..i think ill keep this as a daily lightly modded. Build the suspension and when I'm done with school get rid of the corolla (unless i buy a big house then ill keep it)and import a altezza and do a full track build...kinda bummed about all this since i have already bought the engine and everything else...

Nope... Do you know a good welder? Just weld in plates and shit everywhere the suspension touches the frame... We used to do this to beaten to shit mustangs to prep them for drag racing... We pulled low 10's out of a rustbucket with blown torqueboxes just by adding subframe connectors, and welding in plates everywhere.

I say gut the interior (black? I'll buy it...) and go nuts on the frame with plates... Do drift regulations make you run a cage? That would be a good time to start stiffening the frame.

There's a guy here who got an IS into the 8's... not sure his name. I think he's either the owner of, or tech from SRT. He'll probably have a wealth of knowledge about making the rearends a lot stronger. If he runs consistent 8s pulls, then yours will consistently drift without breaking. And I wouldn't even imagine there would be nearly as much stress of the frame during drifting as there is during grip racing or drag racing, mainly because the tires aren't "attached" to the ground.

I say all isn't lost yet... you just need some Irish innovation and stubbornness... lol

He started it. lol

You are incorrect. Modding cars is mostly for insecure dipshits with no financial smarts. I'm willing to bet 90% of the members on this board who "mod" their cars don't even own the titles to them...

I've owned plenty of modified cars, tasteful ones... Don't get me wrong, it would be badass to have a 6 spd supra swap that was quiet as stock... I paid cash for the car and I have more than enough financial means/skills to actually do it but I've already been there and done that. The next 'fast' car I buy will be paid for with cash, and fast from the showroom. Time/money is more valuable to me than worrying if all the local ricer idiots think I'm cool... I laugh at you fools when I see you drive by.

BTW, I think your car is ugly as balls with those wheels and that lip.

Bragging about paying cash for a $7k car on a Lexus forum is epic fail. A lot of us paid cash for our cars. lol. I'm actually in the middle of closing on a house, perhaps you could PM me with some more of your amazing financial insight. With all this paying-for-stuff-cash, I bet your credit rocks.

BTW, I'd make fun of your car but you don't even own a Lexus. So I'll just make fun of that instead. Have fun at the gas station. Feel free to send us pics of all your plenty of tastefully modified cars...

just got back from vegas for formula d ...spent way too much money but partyed like a rockstar( i hate that sayings)might put this car on the back burner for awhile not sure yet...as for caging it i gotta see if this chassie will even pass track inspection

A beefed-up-chassis should DEF pass... if you have pics of plates welded into the weak points they'll go for it.

A cage will pretty much seal the deal.

Or... part out the wreck you have, and spent a little more money on a beaten-up 01 with a solid unibody.

im sad the mods didnt step in sooner.

but on topic, good luck with your build. i hope you are able to refocus your efforts. that is a great color and could be a lot of fun to track with.

i bought a light wieght flywheel and a exedy clutch for the 2j

is there any recent varations of this motor that are factory turbo?

i know the old MRS/Celica All-trac use the turbo version but idk about the j-spec markets altezza's.....
as far as i know there isnt but i was thinking about maybe importiing a altezza in a year or so and just going turbo

damn, so you were in my area lol shouldve came and picked up the fender ;)

i see you're definitely in need of a passenger fender.. i've lowered my price to $200+shipping.. ive searched around and could not find anything compatible thats cheaper than this. let me know what you think bud.
