I just did it, and maybe its just me but 2002 there is like this little plastic thing that holds the headlights, they POP open when you pull it

u mean the clips under the headlights? u have to push those down with a screwdriver or something as u pull out ur lights

those to clips hold the bumper in place, i am talking about a clip right under the headlight, located at the corner closest to the grill.

they are used to hold the bumper in place, but they also keep the headlight from coming out. u need to push down on it while u pull them out. y dont u take a picture.

I just removed my bumper and headlights to swap in some "chromed" signal bulbs. This tutorial was very helpful, and as usual I have my own input:

Between steps 8 and 9 when the headlights are unbolted, the bumper clips are removed, and the headlights are pulled forward a bit, you need to pull upward on the grille-side of each headlight to release them from gray plastic clamps. I pulled forward on my driver-side light and broke the plastic clamp but pulled upward on the passenger-side light and had no problems.
