I believe that it's the car that remembers the key's unique immobilizer "code". This would be consistent with the fact that you can only program a certain number of keys to a single car.

Nice. That would make much more sense (as I would assume the key's chip is passive).

Can you post the specific method you followed to program the imobilizer for the 01?

I followed the procedures in the first post of this thread. The people that couldn't get it to work with their 01 must be doing it wrong or ma be it only works with 01 Canadian and not American.

Are you saying that the remote opens your doors, but NOT the trunk? I thought programming the remote (not the immobilizer which is a different process), gives you keyless access to both your doors and trunk.

It's most likely your remote if you can open the trunk using the trunk release inside the car. You should probably replace it, at least if you came into my shop that is what I would tell you. I see them on eBay for about $70 but they cost my shop more than this so I don't know if they're OEM quality or if they're cheap pieces of crap.

When you push the button on your remote does the red light light up on the remote? If not you probably have a bad button on the remote. If it does, go to the trunk and put your ear near the lock and push the button and see if you hear it trying to release the trunk. If it doesn't then you probably have a bad motor/trunk release. The lever in the car unless i'm mistaken is a mechanical release and not electronic.

Hiya all New IS200 SE owner (UK 2004)

Need help with remote bit. Been about a week now, tried for almost 3 hours, so now asking for help please.

Got a blank key (with transponder) cut and got the "Key Programming (Starter Chip)" bit working, new key will now start engine, security light goes out on inserting this new key.

"Remote Programming":
Car locks don't cycle, don't think the car goes into programming mode.
Noted also that occasionally during the process the security light starts flashing very rapidly.

Questions:
*) I'm assuming that for "Remote Programming", you do not need to do anything with the pedals and that I can now forget about the immobiliser part of the procedure.

1) Close and lock all doors. Unlock and open drivers door.
-How do you unlock the driver's door? Power switch or normal latch? Because the power switch would unlock all the doors.

2) Put key into ignition and remove. Do not turn it on.
-Is this key the original master or the one I want programmed?

4) Close and open drivers door.
-Does it need to be fully open or just a fraction?
-I have noticed that it is variable as to whether the dome light comes on.

7) You will see the door locks cycle by themselves.
-Never make it here
-Actually did make it once but got flustered & fluffed it up, don't recall if it was single or double lock cycle.

Help please

Anyone know where the "chip" is within the actual metal key (not talking about the remote)?

I don't see why it would not work to simply have the new blank key cut and then put the old remote in the new case.

The actual electronics in the key are removable and can be swapped from different plastic shells. Nothing is in the metal part.

So why would it be any harder than to 1. Get key cut. 2. Swap key remote from one old busted shell to new shell?
