My IS came with a master key and a valet key, so I want to get a second master key off eBay and try this but I have one question.
What is the difference between "key programming (starter chip)" and "remote programming"? Is there a chip in both types of keys that allows it to turn over the motor, then the remote lock/unlock is separate?
This doesnt have anything to do with keys but it does have to do with the key/ecu relationship.
Is there any other place other than lexus that can clear the key code off the ecu? I am trying to see if I can use another ecu with my car and not have to drive the car to a dealer to get it looked at.
*If you are going to texas nationals and have an IS, pm me your name/number/and something about your car so we can recognize who it is. Im assembling a master copy so that we can all group together in Texas.*
Don't be a douche, come to TX2K10, and bring your IS!!
yes if you plan on getting a master remote key, you'll have to do both procedures... the key programming and the remote programming. it took me 1 try to do the key programming and like 5 tries to do the remote programming. i read the instructions wrong, but when i figured out what i was doing wrong, it took only 1 try.
as for the clearing the key code for the ecu... you can do a forums search. there is a sequence you can input to clear it, but that person said it was a huge MISTAKE. dont know why, but just FYI
Bumping an nold thread instead of opening a new one...
I tried the "Remote Programming". No luck. I can't get passed step 7. It will not go into programming mode. Questions are:
Step 1: Do I close and lock the doors when I am inside the car with the Electric lock or Do I stand outside and lock it with the key? Do I unlock it inside with the electric lock or do I stand out side and unlock it with the key?
Step 2: No issues here. Simply put in and take out immediately.
Step 3: How quickly do I press the lock/unlock? 1 sec intervals? 5 secs?
Step 4: Ok
Step 5: See step 3's question
Step 6: Do I just insert key, put it in the "On" position and immedialtely turn off and remove?
You do it inside the car with the doors shut. about 1 second intervals.
