I haven't had any problems with them being noisy. The bottom mounts shouldn't be reliant on the hole being snug on the bolt, it's about the friction caused by how tight the bolt is and squeezing the mounting tabs to the shock mount. The bolt should only be there to align everything.
About the noise over bumps, mine are smooth. Did you play with the preload at all? Are all the locking collars tight?
I think my issue is from the top nut needing to be torqued to 80ftlbs. But since there is no easy way to do this, I will have to take off each wheel and use some sort of rubber grip clamp to keep the strut piston from rotating in order to get the accurate torque. I don't understand why these coilovers come preassembled to just drop in, YET they don't torque them to the required specs they want. Makes no sense to me. I don't have any preload, its hand tight on the spring perch, just like its suppose to be. I'll see how they go after that. All I know is when I had my 240sx, the nissan forums had nothing but long threads about problems with Stance coilovers with popping and spring boing nosies and bad top hat bushings.
Interested in a set of these as well but question for the guys with them on with the 12/10 springs how is the drive on uneven (bumpy) road.
Plus I have an altezza smaller engine so I am unsure what spring rates would be optimal without being too soft or too hard
Definitely depends on how bumpy the road is. I haven't taken my car on dirt roads, so I don't know about washboards. As far as just crappy pavement, the car is very composed, but it's firm, maybe a bit too firm for some people. Turning back the dampers to a softer setting helps.
As far as going with 12/10 with the lighter car, definitely try to get in contact with Stance. I'd say that 10/8 would be fine for your car, if you're going to keep it as a daily driver. For occasional track/autox/or aggressive canyon use, 12/10 would be fine, IMO.
Thats my dilemna I do plan to daily drive/drift/track as well but some of the roads here are rally style bumpy so a more togue setup is what i'm after.
Hey guess I could always order an extra set of 8/9 kg springs and make a swap if the 12/10 is too much.
I'm super pissed right now at these coilovers. They clunk on bumps, not just harsh ones, but any of them. They do not clunk when turning like others have had issues with, those usually were cases of springs not rotating and binding up underload and then releasing. But I can not get the top nut to torque down for the life of me with out the strut piston rotating along with it. The Top nuts are tight, but apparently they need to be torqued extra? I've had a piece of rubber wrapped around the piston with a pair of vice grips as tight as I could get them. I'm about to hit it with an impact possibly. Even on ground with wheels on and weight they still rotate. How the hell do they expect you to torque these down more? And does anybody know if 80ftlbs is the correct spec? I can't find any torque spec in the instructions.
So I hit them with an impact gun. Marked the threads first before hitting to see if any thread distance change happens. Didn't really notice anything from the mark, not that I completely would think there would be. Went out and test drove, and it MIGHT, I mean MIGHT have made slight difference, but it might be all in my head. Still makes clunk noise over bumps. Any uneven services sounds like 10 guys dribbling basketballs in my trunk or sounds like a bag of baseballs came loose and are bouncing around. Any more ideas?
Are you sure everything in the rear is tight? Swaybar mounts, endlinks, control arms, shock mounts ... I mean, seriously, if it sounds like somethings loose, it's probably because something's loose. Otherwise, I'd take everything off, put your old stuff on, and check if it makes the same noise.
Something else, are you sure it's the suspension making noise and not something rattling around under the spare (or even the spare not being tight) or around under the plastic panels?
Previous suspension (bilstein shocks/Eibach pro kit) did not make this noise. Nothing suspension wise has changed other than swapping in the coilovers. Everything is tight. Nothing in the trunk bouncing around (don't have a spare). Dampers are set on medium. I might give Togue Factory a call and see what they say. My springs aren't binding. And for the most part on smooth roads I love the way they feel. Its just any bump at all is just a harsh clunk noise.
If you are hearing this noise on the front only could be the brake reaction bar bushings maybe hearing them now due to a stiffer shock or lower ride height explore all possibilities .
Had some that the bushings went on me nasty clunking sound other wise seems like you have the nuts as tight as they can go . So if the noise isnt from another faulty part in the front end maybe pillow balls could be damaged (unlikely though )
Even on a large humps, where its not a quick bump, but like a wave on an expressway, I can feel the car lift into the air and as it lightly comes down it feels like the top hats clunk. Almost like the strut is stretching/coming away from the car at top of crest and then clunking back into compression when entering into trough
Some good news. Sent an email out to Touge Factory last night, got an email today saying they are going to send out new and revised upper mounts. Hopefully this resolves the issue, which I think it should. I really like these coilovers a lot other than this issue. Handles great.
