I installed a couple of weeks ago the LSD by TRD. But when the car is cold, specially in the mornings, I feel an extreme amount of rattle and vibrations on the rear end. After some driving and cornering, the rattle goes away completely. Im sure its because of the temperature of the oil, when cold it makes the LSD rattle. When I installed it I put in the diferential Red Line's 75W-90 gear oil, plus 4 Fl. ounces of gear friction modifier. Those who have installed the TRD LSD, what oil did you use?

I know that when Lexus serviced my OEM LSD rear, they forget to add the "LSD Additative"...Its a small bottle and I am pretty thats the name of it....
This caused my rear to chatter and kinda whine on slow starts and up hill inclines ...
So I went back and they added the LSD additative and the noise totally went away..
It's amazing what a difference a few ounces of fluid can make...
This may work the same for the TRD LSD...
Hope this hepls

Yes no problems with the settings or install since once the lsd heat up a little after a couple of minutes of driving, the rattle dissappears until it cools down completely.

This is interesting. The OEM LSD in the IS300 is a Torsen device. Torsen differentials do not have clutch packs in them. Everything I've read says that no friction modifier additives are needed in a Torsen differential. I understand that the TRD LSD is a clutch pack type differential. I would expect the lubrication/additive requirements for the two to be different.

Thanks for the info guys, I think I found a solution. TRD states that the oil should be 85w140 I found this oil in my country, Motorcraft. Eventhough its not TRD, I think it will work since both are synthetic and have the same properties. I also bought the fricition modifier for that particular oil.
Im putting it in about an hour, Ill let you know.

I'm about to change the oil on my lsd soon. I've been reading and people are suggesting redline 75w90. Can someone post what extra oil I need as discussed here years ago? Thanks.

no extra oil needed for our stock lsd because it is a torsen type. i used redline 75w90 and get no chatter. and i have 155k miles
btw, if i remember correctly synthetic gear oils like redline's actually have additives already in the formula
