Intake breather filter instead of vacuum line

ive seen the use of this for some intake mimic the design of the PLP intake, but they have no vacuum line attachment. they remove the vacuum line and use a breather filter on it. is this effect perfomance i sure it does, even if a little. also my main concern is if this is safe?

2 main concerns:

Not emissions legal
Eh, no big deal if you don't mind it. OEM and other intakes recir the gasses that come out of the valvecover into the air intake so they are burned in the motor... instead of letting them out to go kill trees and squirrels and stuff.

Oil may buildup in breather filter and drip on header...
If this does happen, there will be at least a bit of smoke... and at worst (probably unlikely) a fire. If you check it once a month, though, I believe you could detect any signs of oil buildup before it becomes a problem.

Beyond that, should be fine.

I run a breather on the fresh air side of the PCV system (passenger side valve cover). It doesn't get oily, and if your dirty side of the PCV system (the side with the PCV valve) is working properly, you shouldn't get any oil in the breather filter unless you are running boost on an engine with a ton of blow-by.

Most of the breathers you buy from that parts shops are un-oiled, so I spray a little K&N filter oil on it just to make sure it catches most of the crap. I replace it once a year. They are cheap enough that you don't have to waste time cleaning them.
