Thanks for this awesome thread!! Truly helped with my auto to manual project! I'm an '01 and was wondering if there's anyway I can clear the CEL I'm getting, all tranny related. Sucks that the wiring in the 01's are totally different that I cant just drop in a manual ecu. ;(

Smog update

Well the time has come to put my car to the test, smog test that is. The car passed with no questions or concerns towards the transmission. It even says manual transmission on the print out.

And just a reminder, i did not get my transmission swap "reffed" or "barred"

Another note on this, Mom's car still has a very quick hesitation noticeable only when hitting VVTI. No CEL though...I still think you other Auto to Manual conversion guys are nuts and simply not feeling it haha

One of these days I'll actually wire up the speed sensor from the manual tranny to the proper pin out in the ECU....one of these day...

I don't know Migs, my car drives great, and trust me i over analyze my car daily, and i drive it pretty hard.

Before i did my swap i noticed a split second cut off the throttle when cruising, my friend thought it was the throttle position sensor, but after the swap, i haven't had it happen once.

The only thing i wish i did different gone for the the v160 from the beginning.

good to see you around again, i still use the multi tool frequently, thanks again. if your ever in my area, free test drive to compare swaps.

Oh believe me, it's there. There's a big difference between driving my sedan vs her wagon.

I'll get to the bottom of it by the end of the year... and update how I wired it up. Finding the pins for the ECU wiring is a nightmare

Another note on this...

A quick and easy way to make the shifter work...

Thought I'd update this with the couple final shots of the shifter going in.

I had to get some kind of spacer to cover the newly "bigger-ized" shifter hole over the tranny.

A big 'ol piece of rubber mat, silicone, and some self drilling screws sure make life easy!

I guess we will have to agree to disagree, if something was amiss i would not withhold it. There is at least one other member who i help through the process, who owns a stock manual and a converted, and he never mentioned this difference.

Nice, that would be more simple for sure, i know it gets hot there, does the rubber melt or give off a odor?

So I know this is a bit of an older thread, and I've gotten tons of great info on here. After a long time of parts collecting I think I'm finally good to go on my swap, but I have no idea what this grey connector goes to. TIS says its a brake pedal load sensing switch but that's about all the info I can get. Thanks in advance!

I don't know what it does, but I do know that it is irrelevant to the manual swap, since both auto and manual brake setup is identical. Only the brake pedal is different, Good luck on your conversion, and be sure to post up when your finished.

Hey thanks for the quick respone. Thats what I thought, but I grabbed everything with the pedal just incase. Plus I didnt pay extra for it anyways. I got all my interior (5spd center console), brake pedal assem, clutch pedal assem for 100 bucks so I thought it was a great deal.

It's part of the ABS/Traction control system. Plugs right into the skid-control ECU according to the manual.

Can you shine a bit more light on this?

I cracked open the manual. The diagnostic manual available on this site, then looked at the schematic for the ABS/Trac computer and saw it listed there. It's the box mounted next to the brake pedal.

Don't know what'll happen if you don't have it. It's normally open so, this suggests it's only active when you're braking. If I was doing this job, I'd inspect my car and see if it's attached to the old brake pedal and if it is, attach it to the new brake pedal.

Well my 01 auto pedal didn't have it thats why I figured might as well grab it just incase it's something that I do need. Thanks for the info, looks like I have a little bit more homework to do then.
