Hi everyone new to the forum here and seeking some help/ advice. I own a 2001 Lexus Is300 and today on my commute noticed a rumbling in the engine when I braked at the light. Suddenly my check engine light threw a signal, as well oddly the "traction off" life kept flashing on and off as well. I also noticed that after turning my engine off then turning it back on the RPM's where at 1500 despite the fact I had the Ebrake on and was not moving.
This rumbling persisted every time I used the brake but would kick off the second I accelerated, anyone have any ideas on what the problem may be? I would rather see if I can fix or repair whatever it is rather than take it in, my first order of business is to make a trip to O'Reilly to see what's throwing the signal. Any ideas anyone?
I would get the codes checked. I bet you it's been rumbling for a while. You just noticed it when the light came on. My money is on the light being an evap code or something, and the "rumbling" being motor mounts.
I only make this guess because my girlfriends IS is the same way. Lol
Sounds like the an ABS issue. The trac off light will blink at you when there is a problem with the ABS system, or an engine misfire. Please update us on the code that is thrown. Until you get that read you are honestly just shooting in the dark.
Just an Update so I went down to O'Reilly to the Check engine light read and it threw 15 codes many of which were repeats. The two codes were P0300 & P1349 and from reading other forums I think I may need a new Variable Timing Solenoid which threw the P1349 code and probably was the result of the P0300 which were the misfires
I then proceeded to bring my car to the mechanic and he told he me all this about how oil was leaking into engine (despite oil light not being on, not seeing any noticeable leaks, or having oily smoke from the exhaust) and he also told me I need a new driving belt and water pump and gave me a bill of $2100. I got the feeling he saw me as 20 year old kid he could pull a fast one on so I had the car towed home. I took off the engine cover and looked at the driving belt which looked fine to me and proceeded to take out the solenoid. The solenoid looked fine and after hooking it up battery tester and seeing if it worked which it did, I tried cleaning it. After cleaning it it appeared to have worked, as the car fired up without rumbling and multiple times I revved the engine without a problem so I assumed I had fixed the problem.
I drove the car for about 2.8 miles without an issue when the rumbling idle engine, stiff breaks, check engine light and traction light were all back on. I'm kind of lost at this point and don't know what to believe I think I need to try totally replacing the solenoid and then if that doesn't work just replace the timing belt and water pump as it is at 91,000 miles around the time when the belts need replacing. Could really use some help/guidance please let me know if you any advice or tips! Thank you
Did the issue just occur? Or have you done or had any maintenance done on the car recently? Because I had a similar issue after changing my spark plugs, turns out I had routed some vacuum hoses wrong and was causing an evap issue. What codes are you getting?
