Over 31 MPG IS300 !?!?!?!

Okay the first thing everyone is going to do, is doubt this and probably offer their .02 on how I cannot be correct.

I went on a FULL road trip from Santa Monica, (first filling up & zeroing out the trip Odometer) to Thousand Oaks, back to Santa Monica, then back to Thousand Oaks and back to Santa Monica again. lol I was running errands... well, bringing my car in for service. I then took PCH all the way to Malibu from Santa Monica and then came back home. This was over 5 days.

That's 90 miles round trip X 2 = 180. (santa monica -> thousand oaks), Round trip from Santa Monica to deep inside Malibu-> (52 miles)

When I went to fill up today, my car was only 1/2 full but I had driven 247.3 miles according to the trip odometer. The car took in 7.86 gallons of Prem. until it shut off @ full!

I had the cruise control set at 75-85 depending on where I was on the 101 and then set between 50-55 on PCH.

Do the math 31.4 MPG Whoever said the IS is a gas guzzler? Just proved them wrong! Now, for those of you sinister ones, lets hear your suggestions as to HOW I'm wrong. My number will now be used against those who claim the 3-series to get "such better gas mileage" btw. I usually avg. about 23mpg in stop + go coast road traffic.

Just got my 30K service done on my first trip to T.Oaks $525.80

Mines almost stock. I just have a whole new exhaust system *no resonator* and like exterior stuff. Once in a while someone makes a post about gas mileage complaining that no IS gets in mid 20s let alone high 20s so thats why i posted this. You get in the 30s on EACH fill up?

oh lol thats more like most people. I usually get 280-290 on 3/4 tank (about 12 gallons it usually takes) and i just shift at 2800-3500 rpm. not a real lead foot on my car (loaners are a different story).

Normal everyday driving, I'm usually exactly 200 miles at half. I fill up at 1/4 tank and I'm usually at 300 exactly.

I drive from LA to San Jose about once a month and I usually get around 240 at half too. I think I can do even better because I'm usually doing like 80-90mph the whole way up

I really dont understand why ppl are bitching about the gas mileage. I think they're driving it like its a Ferrari and expecting Prius mileage from it ??

Good to see these things can be economical

I get 300-350 during my commute. Mostly highway. When I drive it hard in town, more like 270ish. I don't doubt your story, but it was probably some freak occurance.

i wish i got good mileage like that. i usually get about 300 or less on a full tank. i usually don't fill up until the gas light comes on.

and that leads me to a question... i heard it is better for your car when you fill up at a 1/4 tank instead of when on "E." is that true?

What's the reserve on our cars at low gas light up?
I've been gettin ~340 at first low cas indicator. I usually fill up 15 to 15.5 gallons.
50% city 50% hwy.
1200miles so far... hopefully it'll get better with age.. 340 is pathetic for 15.5 gals compared to my last car..

I just took a trip to Iowa and i got 400 miles to one tank. i drive hard all the time. always have my foot on the gas, pretty much all city driving and i still get 320 a tank. i was real surprised with 400 though. i did some hard hwy driving. up to 100 a few times. hard passing. i just thought thats really good. i figured it was around 26 miles to the gallon. not sure on that though

sounds about right.

I do Philly to NJ (roughly 125 miles 1 way) every weekend.. i go with full tank, zeroed out trip meter, and i get to north jersey using up only 1/4 of tank or less. I do mostly 75-80 all the way.. not much sudden acceleration.. just crusing at 80 +/- 5 mph.
