Is My Engine F***ed Up?!

What an adventure to get to the cam and crankshaft seals...

The vvti intake cam gear made several 360 rotations and end up in the position in the pic below as i removed the allen bolt with an air ratchet. Is it okay?

If you follow the procedure in the manual, the crank should have been 30 degrees below TDC so, the valves and pistons shouldn't have made any contact. If you were at TDC on the other hand, the risk of contact is higher.

I spun the cam like this exactly the same way and didn't bend anything but I was 30 degrees off TDC at the time. On the cam itself is a set of flats you can put a wrench on. That's how I held the cam (wrench slipped when I spun the cam).
IM QUIKR likes this.

I thought its not an interference engine unless the cam lift is over 9.5mm or something of that nature I can't remember on the top of my head when the 2j becomes interference.

I was under the impression VVTI was but non-VVTI wasn't. Don't know for certain. If it's not then I'm not clear why Toyota would have a special "30 degrees off TDC" procedure in the manual when messing with the cams or replacing the timing belt.

Some cars, the intake and exhaust valves can collide together when they're both full out.
