I think the black/red car is great, looks super clean, MECHANICALLY and as far as the lines go... But the gold engine bay is hideous. Sidepipes are a little much, but with a turbo that big he can get away with it.
If he wasn't colorblind and had some sense of style, the car would be outstanding.
But there's no excuse for flames on a Lexus. Period.
since most of you guys are newer here, YES the car in the first post of this thread was owned by someone here on is300.net
He is from socal somewhere, and his car was used to prototype that kit (yeah, can you believe it). i am fairly confident most of the locals here didn't like that thing at all.
As for the red IS, I'm pretty sure I saw that on tv once. Hella clean engine bay, and unique exhaust.
I would rock sidepipes but only if:
A) My car was balls fast with a nasty turbo (as seen in picture)
B) They were actual exhaust pipes and not some 2-bit ricer exhaust jerry rigged onto a side skirt.
I think that if this was done with custom sides that were made to mold around the tips, it could look pretty nice. These are big in the mustang community, and are widely accepted. I'm all for originality, hell everyone knows I'm all about that. But... I also have taste and style and will only do something if I think it looks good. I'm not tryin to impress anyone but myself.

I totally agree with your statement.
I wouldn't do those pipes unless if they were real. If it's fake, then it'd be a no-no.
And yes, I think if you have a turbo like that, then you can make the car original and a lil more out there.
With the 1st Gen IS starts anywhere between $5-10K, you will see a lot more high school kids driving them... so you will see a lot more Lexus-Rice out there!
If that turquoise car was painted a solid color and had the wheels to fill those rear fenders with stretched on tires 99% of you would be beating off to that thing.
