Lexus has just officially confirmed what many of us have already known for a while: that they will unveil a premium compact hatchback concept at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show. Their official Press Release, brought to our attention by an entry in Kevin RE Watts' always-informative The Lexus Enthusiast blog
, reads as follows:
"Lexus has unveiled the first official sketch of a concept car that will be presented at the forthcoming Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA).
The concept will demonstrate a mix of technical innovation and ground-breaking design that promises to raise the bar in the premium compact segment.
The Lexus press conference at the IAA is scheduled for 15:45 on 15 September at Stand C11 in Hall 8."
The latter is no surprise, as we informed you of that back on 23 July in our Lexus' "C-Premium" upmarket small car gets a name: CT 200h... Front Page story.
As you ogle and drool over that sketch, keep in mind that there's lots of potential for Lost in Translation
as the Lexus CT morphs from the concept teaser sketch you see atop this story to physical concept car (tipped to wear either the C-premium or LF-Th moniker) to production CT 200h.
The deliberately rough and impressionist nature of that sketch lends itself to all sorts of educated guesswork regarding the concept design. Will it have a Scion tC or Lexus ES-like panoramic glass roof, as Kevin RE Watts predicts? Will the mounting of and sculpturing around the front Lexus logo be reminiscent of that of the 2010 Toyota Prius?
And does that white "< " shape in the C-pillar behind the greenhouse simply denote some "L-Finesse" sculpturing or does it indicate a wraparound rear window reminiscent of the SEAT Toledo?
(this author certainly hopes that it's the former...)
