Tutorial: How to install HID kit into IS250 IS350 [pics]

Quote:
1. Pop open your hood. You'll have to remove your panels.
To do so, look at the pic below and start removing them in red. I may have missed some. Use your eyes damnit.
To remove them, push the center downwards with a screwdriver. You will hear them "pop" and then you should be able to pull the entier pop-fastener out.

There are 2 special fasteners and you will need a 10mm socket or a large head flathead screwdriver.
Loosen as much as possible (the nut will not come out. It is designed to stay with the cover)
Then pull the panel up and it will come upwards with it.

Quote:
2. Time to remove your airbox to get to the passenger headlight.
In the pic you need to remove 2 screws (Top and left).
Then loosen the clamp for the airbox (Right)

Quote:
3. Unclip the MAF sensor

Quote:
4. Pop the clip off the dust cover to the headlight. Remove the bulb (twist counterclockwise) and pull it out with the harness.

Quote:
5. Here is where it gets rather vague. The rest is wiring. Wiring is an art.
You can do it however you'd like but here is how I did this particular car and this particular HID kit.

I drilled and dremeled a hole in the dust cover.

Quote:
6. Pull out the factory harness.
Push the wires through with a grommet.

Quote:
7. Cut the factory harness so that you can solder it to the HID ballast wiring. This supplies power to the ballast.

Blue is + and black is - (ground)

Quote:
8. Solder the stock wiring harness to the wiring for the HID ballast.

Quote:
9. Put the bulb into the headlight and twist clockwise to lock it in.
Here is a pic of the dust cover on and the wiring in place.

Quote:
10. Wire up the ballast to the bulbs and secure the ballast somewhere.
Quote:
11. Now onto the drivers side. I'm going to leave out some of the repetitive steps from the passenger side and simply give instruction on how to get to the bulb.
Unscrew the 10mm screw that holds the windshield washer fluid filler neck.

Quote:
12. Remove the black cap for the filler.

Quote:
13. Here is a pic of the drivers side dust cap.
Do the same as the passenger side from here on in.

I think this is the best DIY for HID's that I've seen. Good work.

The IS X50 doens't come with HID's from the factory. It's an option.

Thanks for the write up. It will help me alot.

I have 2 questions:
1) What is the stock headlight bulb?
2) Where did you choose to mount the Ballast?

Thanks again.
