Umm all of the car's ive own and driven all does that. I havent been in a car that doesnt light up when it's 1 bar or almost to the red line. All IS300's light comes on at that time. Also dont get worried the car can still go for another 40-60 miles before it's really out of gas. Ive done it many times. I believe that car still has about 2-2.5 gallons left when the light turns on.

It's actually about 3 gallons when light comes on. There's been many times when the light comes on and I filled up right after.....it fills to 14.5ish gallons, meaning that we have about 3 gallons left since it's a 17.5 gallon tank. Like svv232 said....you can still go to 60 or so with the light on. Most I've done was 62 with the light on....lol Yeah I don't recommend that though. Only did it once.

To the OP....that's 100% normal where you gas light went off.

Looks about right to me.

Did you by any chance replace your fuel pump recently?

yeah, thats normal that means you have 2-3 gallons of fuel left.

meaning you have more than enough to find a gas pump while on the highway(less than 50 miles obviously)

I'm currently close to empty as well and my light hasn't come on yet. I usually fill up before I even get close to empty just to be safe but I'm gonna drive a little longer and see what happens.

Sounds like it's normal. Shouldn't really let it get that low. The fuel pump uses gas for cooling. Running low all the time could shorten it's life.

On older cars that's certainly true (and maybe even on new Kias or something).

But since at least the Mk4 supra though Toyota/Lexus has used a small sub-tank the fuel pump sits in so that you don't have to worry about losing cooling of the pump when you're lower on fuel, and don't have to worry about the fuel sloshing 'away' from the pump when braking/cornering/etc.

Here's a diagram of the system from the Mk4-

Not to say you wanna run it dry certainly, when the light comes on- get gas...but it's not like the old days where running under 1/4-1/8th risked burning up a pump.
