Turbo Kit or Swap 2jz gte?

Hello, Been a long time since my IS300 been sitting in the garage with a bad GE engine! I'm in the process fo taking this engine out and putting in a new one. But, like to put some boost in to this bad boy. From what I been reading NA-T turbo kit seem to be easy way out.. But since I have to get a new engine would a new 2JZ-GTE be a better route?

I'm not good at fabrication stuff since I don't know how to weld, but.... to remove and install engine on the car I can manage since I have done it with 3 cars in the past. I understand this project is not just a swap drop in and go...but I like to make it as easy and simple as possible. Another wary is that I have AT with E-shift on the steering wheel....Do I have to upgrade/swap the Tran?

I'm not looking to go crazy.. any thing beyond 300HP-350HP I will be very happy. Since this is going to be my daily car with 2 kids =) Any suggestion?

Also, where are you guys getting parts from? inter cooler? Down Pipe? ect... I see ebay have many parts but..how good/reliable are they?

One question i have is, what is your budget?

swap is way more $ than boosting a GE

So from the looks of it, I'd say rebuild your bad GE with GTE internals and get your hands on a boost kit. Ebay, you get what you paid for. Do it right the first time.

The search function is your best friend on this site.

Yea budget will determine which route to actually take. However, in your situation, since your pulling out the engine anyway...um yea....full GTE swap would be what I'd do. But that's just me.

If your looking for good kit and reliable power better have 10 grand. Then if you want to do a tranny swap double it.

Right now I have good $3000 save for this ...and more $ to come... Selling one of my car ...so... $4500 that what I'm looking to spend. I hope that's enough?

As of now...I'm looking in to GTE swap...because GTE give enough HP that I was looking for with out do massive mod. I'll stay with the twin w/GE or GTE Ecu to run it. From what I have seen I should be able to get GTE in and run with in my budget.

This what I guesstimate the cost to get this GTE.
2JZ GTE - $2000
FMIC kit - $300
Already have 3" full back - $0 =)
Down Pipe - $200
Few extra nut & Bolts pieces - $500
Guage and stuff $250
Upgrade Fuel Pump - $150
SAFC - $300
Boost Controller - $300 ( It will be cheaper if I do Manuel Controller)

Again... I think stock GTE will give me 300+HP with out do crazy modAny else that I miss?? I hope this will work with my stock AT e-shift transmission.

it will work with your transmission, but you'll need at least a VB upgrade and Cooler to do it right.

your numbers seems pretty accurate, however, considering I've done a GTE swap or two, i can pretty much guarantee you WILL come across odd's and end's. I'd budget an extra 1000 just to be sure. Also make sure you budget in your tuning. It's not going to hit the street running perfect. So don't expect that.

If you end up going turbo kit, your going to need more money.

valve body upgrade, for the transmission. at minimum do the 2-3-4 shift upgrade. Usually those are the 3 aluminum rods to have to insert in the solenoids, in the transmission

I'd say depends on how much power you are going to run. If you are looking for a ALOT, get a good quality run. If you are looking for say 10psi or something, you can probably get by with an e-bay one.

On a comparison, I've got an e-Bay one on my GTE swap. I'm boosting stock power levels ....no problems.

Ok....don't looking for too much power...mostly every thing will be stock as far as the engine and turbo goes. 10 - 12 psi should be enough. I'll be ordering 2jz gte some time next week. Still debating where to get the enginefrom.

Here are some of my questions..just to make sure i understand the built after i read all those swap Manuel.
* i can use original is300 auto tranny? (I'll do VB mod on it)
* i do not have to switch all the wireing harness? I can still use is300 harness with 2jz gte?
* with piggy back it should beable to manage ejz gte? Do i still need S-afc to control a/f mixture?
* i'm looking for down pipe and not sure what to buy...just want to make sure it fit. I already have3" cat back that i installed.

Thanks for the help..I'starta new thred on the build..just so i can ask more question as i go.

Yes to all your questions. As for the piggy, most people use E-Manage Ultimate. That's what i used the first time around. Then I went to Haltec E6x and now I'm going to OEM Aristo ECU

As for the downpipe, I believe you'll need to modify an MK3 one to make it work. Any exhaust shop should be able to do this or just make a custom one for you.
