i did the timing belt job today and realized i didn't have the little timing belt plete that goes behind the crank pulley and in front of the timing belt bulley in the bottom ......before i put back together is that little timing plate needed it seems like is there for safety purposes in case but i was riding my car fine before and even know it was gone ,,,,
The guide plate? Personally If I had to I would run without it if I had to wait for the part to come in. If you are missing it then whom ever did it last time may have lost it. But to err on the side of caution get it. Also I am not responsible for you grenading your engine if it happens!
Please put it in the car....its just not worth the risk. I'm sure it will run fine but if memory serves that little plate prevents the belt from sliding and rubbing against the cover which can rip the belt and you know what happens if that happens.
Remember it may run fine for weeks or even months...but it ONLY has to fail ONCE for you to be sorry you didn't just put that little $5.00 plate in there.
