well i just read through this entire thread again.

Great car man....im assuming HKS sponsor right?

any idea when you can get a vid of the car running? Also when the break in period will be over with?

and as for the front bumper...i mean you have access to a wind tunnel fro crying out loud.....so im not going to argue with you aerodynamically, but cant you do sumtin to make it look less out of place. Like maybe just a very thin vertical piece on the very outside corners. so that the side view doesnt look so much like the car has something missing up there.

Ya know what i mean?

i appreciate that everyone has an opinion..........and that some people dont like the bumper.

however there are a few reasons for the bumper.

1. the Hipposleek was not a unique bumper anymore

2. i clipped it and needed to do some repairs

3. im a perfectionist, the modifications to make it fit the intercooler were crude, i wanted it to look better

4. the car will have a potential top speed of 200mph, myself and my sponsers have every intention of reaching this speed on a disused airfield

5. the car needs as much in the way of aerodynamic aids as possible, the car is based in Germany, already the car has been upto 145mph

6. areodynamic testing found downforce and steering stability were a concern on this saloon shape at over 170mph!!

7. due to point 7 investigations were carried out and it was found that opening the bumper sides created Downforce and steering stability at over 120mph, this is due to an effect called the "Magnus Effect" http://www.geocities.com/k_achutarao/MAGNUS/magnus.html

8. its different.if looked from directly in front, it can be seen that all the angles actually replicate the lines on the car as is..bonnet vent width, is the same as the intercooler mouth, the vertical sides line up with the bonnet shut lines.........

further aerodynamic aids will be added which im sure wont be liked either....but, Form over Function........it can look good, but in my eyes, it has to be safe aswell, this car has not been built to cruise and sit at car shows.

its been built to prove something.

more aerodynamic aids will inclde, Panards/winglets on the front, full underbody panelling, from Carbon Fibre and aluminum, and at the rear a full GT spec underchassis diffuser.pretty it may not be, but there is every hope that this car will stick like shit to a blanket, and if my ass is in the seat, thats exactly what i want it to do.

and finally..........im still in talks about bringing it over the Pond to you guys

Hey man if you bring it to the USA that would be awesome

I still don't see why the bumper wasn't unique really, but I have just been around a little bit and I think it is rare enough for me

But Form over function is awesome man keep it up, also you mentioned a rear difuser, by that you mean spoiler correct? I know this is going to sound funny but there is a company in Korea when I was there that makes spoilers like that you may be looking for and we have retailers here in the US

www.gtwing.co.kr
They have all size brackets etc..... so if one of them are like what you are wanting let me know I know the distro people and can get one for you.

sorry i dint make it clear..its an underbody diffuser, to create downforce on the rear of the car, it fits under the rear of the car, between the 2 exhausts

here are some examples.......

i appreciate the stability decision and concern and if that's true then it's definately the right thing to do. Saftey is #1. But, letting the air hit the tire like that is an aerodynamic hinderance and creates turbulance usually. I guess the positives outweighed the negatives.

you said that it was created to prove a point. i was wondering what that point was. Besides to have one of the badest IS's on that side of the pond.

the main point to prove.or make is to build the Fastest and most powerfull street legal Lexus.....

but at the end of the day.its the fun in doing it all

as for turbulance, technically no.....as is explained below briefly

"........The commonly accepted explanation is that a spinning object creates a sort of whirlpool of rotating air about itself. On the side where the motion of the whirlpool is in the same direction as that of the windstream to which the object is exposed, the velocity will be enhanced. On the opposite side, where the motions are opposed, the velocity will be decreased. According to Bernoulli's principle, the pressure is lower on the side where the velocity is greater, and consequently there is an unbalanced force at right angles to the wind. This is the magnus force...."

in laymans terms, a spinning object becomes more stable, when the whirlpool of air created by the spinning object(wheel) is open to the airstream (open ended bumper) the velocity of the wheel will increase in relation to the increase in velocity to the airstream (less drag), so technically having the open ended bumper, creates less drag, and in theory, alows the wheel to travel faster..(not that it will though)

the rear of the wheel(in the wheel housing), the airstream now has a decrease of velocity, however this part of the wheel is out of the airstream, and is enclosed in the aerodynamic surrounds of the fender, so drag is not created.

but who cares...........are people really that interested in the aerodynamics of the car.

IMO i actually like it. just that the sides don't seem to match the front. much props to doing such a thing to your car.

superchargedis200- i must say that when i first saw your bumper i wasnt a huge fan either, but there was no mistaking that this was a puropse-built that definitely suits your intentions with your car. very nice and youve come a very long way since i last spoke to you, this was way back when the notion of a 2JZ-GTE swap was just that, a notion and now its quite literally a reality, you are taking street saloon performance to a new level with your IS.

as far as high speed stability, canards in the front bumper cavities IS A MUST ! and your plans to add underbody panels and rear diffuser are very good ideas indeed. i think that a little extra time spent thoroughly researching and developing the right panels will be well worth the wait. channeling air under and through the vehicle PROPERLY is essential. i could say so much more, but it seems as though youve got a good grip on things so i anxiously await the next chapter of your IS's development... this is honestly the most exciting part of your endeavour. also, ive just noticed your spoiler, that should definitely be replaced with a purpose-built GT unit as well and no two cars are the same so it is crucial that you pay attention to YOUR car's aerodynamic shortcomings and address them. cant wait to see the underbody panels ! congrats and keep up the great progress

ok,

all that stuff sounds rigth and all.

but then why would F1 cars have front lip spoilers that redirect the air flow over the front tires?

F1 cars are open-wheel vehicles which have different parameters for aerodynamics and those nose spoilers are still completely open for airflow, the top panels direct airflow up and over which creates massive downforce for the front wheels/tires to be able to turn and hold the road at insane speeds. if you really take a look at F1 aerodynamics a lot of air hits the front tires pretty dead on.

also, superchargedis200- remember that rear diffuser assemblies for say an FD3S probably wont do as much for you as a custom built unit specific to YOUR IS.

youre gunna eat up your tires and your brakes !

yep,

the FD3 pics were an example for those that didnt know what a rear underbody diffuser was.

the one for this car, i am currently working out, my next trip to the wind tunnel isnt untill 2 weeks time, so i am working on 3 different versions
