I'm not very surprised that a 600hp Viper can beat out a 420hp R8. They should try that shit with the R8 TDI; that would be some shit. Texas Motor Sport Ranch isn't very far from me. I've always wanted to go.

Viper would most likely still beat it. Have you seen the size of the TDI engine? That thing has to have a heavy ass.

It was the MSR in Houston, not here in Ft. Worth. There is a guy here at the office (doesn't work with me) who club races out there with PCA and BMW CCA all the time. Says its pretty nice.

I still think the Viper would take the V12 TDI. The R8, in both forms, is a different sort of beast from the Viper. The R8 has all the technological goodies to keep it doing what it does best, and turn trick times (even though they turned them off). It can tear up the track, but still be a nice weekend toy/possible daily driver to get you to and from in luxery while maintaining the supercar feeling.

The Viper is the biggest engine they could get shoved into the lightest car they could put together and still maintain structural ridgity. Its an in your face, kick your ass, kill your father, kidnap your mother, sew your dog's and cat's ass together, and take your sister out for a nice lobster dinner and not call her back the next day thrill ride. It is a pure track machine with nothing to save your ass when you get stupid with it, and safety of the passengers (because you don't drive this thing, you just hold on for the ride) was a marginal after thought. I wouldn't be surprised if they would have forgone seatbelts had it not been for that whole Federal safety stuff.

Eric...
I have and I'd still gladly have an R8. I felt like I was in a minivan with a fire breathing monster. Thing is a hoot on the autocross and will bite you hard so easily. Gimme an R8...heck i'd pick a 997 Carrera S over the Viper...
