I love people that think you can't make a good car better. Screw progress, fucking model T's are where it's at.

I didn't say they were trying to break into the Corvette buyer market, but that guy sure didn't do a good job convincing me that I should pass up a more expensive, RWD V8 coupe for a less expensive RWD 4 banger as a fun weekend car / track racer. In reality, most people buying these are going to be doing exactly what most people are doing in a Corvette; stoplight racing. So exists another slow tuner fanboi car that the 18-24 demographic is going to throw a downpipe and springs on and fart their way around town.

It's just the reality of it. Anyone buying this car to track might as well just buy a Miata, or step it up and buy a RWD V8 coupe.

I like the Miata - but it's entirely impractical. The FRS is a reasonable option for someone who only has the space for one car and would like to take it to the track or autox.

I'm betting the purchase price keeps the fanboi's away for a while. Most of those guys are skipping meals to pay for their insurance on 10 year old hondas - the FRS isn't in their budget. I'm actually hoping its slowness keeps the fanbois away as well.

As far as the Corvette goes, this is going to be 400-600 pounds lighter and should be carrying a lot of that weight closer to the ground. Obviously you can't judge it until you see it run, but even if a vette can open up a pretty big gap on the straight, it'll lose a lot of it in the turns on a short road course.

the review from chris harris does sound rather fan-boyish but he gave a pretty good initial impression (imo) of the car as most reviewers just go straight to the specs/features. coming from someone who's driven many high performance vehicles, i'm very pleased with the feedback he gives on the gt86. looks like he was having too much fun with the car to give a detailed review

actually the LFA V10 is the size of a typical V8 and the weight of a V6.

Miata requires an aftermarket roll bar to track at most events, so that's a negative, and the BRZ will be faster most likely. I think you'll see a ton of these at track days, driven by older dudes.

After a fair amount of investigating and Googling, I think I've figured out that the GT 86 / FR-S / BRZ use the Aisin AZ6 manual transmission, the A960E automatic from the current RWD IS 250 and the limited-slip diff from either the 1st-gen IS 300 or its slightly less beefy IS 200 counterpart.

My reasoning is spelled out in this article:

Yeah, I could have told you that it used the AZ6. Forget where I read that prior.

Wow, I never knew that the AZ6 was in the S2k and the RX8. I've always said that those cars had the BEST 6speed I'd ever driven. Now, realizing it was the SAME tranny, I know why. This is outstanding. Now the AZ6 isn't just a model name on paper, I know how this shit feels.

This is great news!

The tranny info was given out in Top Gear mag. This may mean you could swap in the HKS unit for the Altezza

I have the box in my tez. Its nice for sure. But for anything ove maybe 350hp it will be a liability. But hopefully now I can get a gearset cheaper lol

Then there is nothing to worry about with the engine pushing 200HP.

This car keeps getting better and better. With the same 6speed from the S2K it sounds like it's going to be a joy to drive.

Yup
