Ranked right up with Infiniti and Lexus with initial quality, where do they stand 5 years later? and yes it is true they are very reliable, they always have been, especially for the power they've produced and how people drive them.
You must be looking at one or two online statements instead of actual real life experience, that much is obvious if you claim they have any bad reputation for reliability. Anybody that knows a damn about cars know that Porsche have always made reliable cars.
Sure there were a couple shitty cars back in the 70's, the 914 and others that had misc. problems, but what mfg hasn't had a shitty run or model yanked from production?
Year after year they show up along the top 5 car mfg's for quality, for 20+ years they've averaged among the top 5 in many studies.
Here, I did a random search on Edmunds for a 2000 911 from actual customers, look at their opinions and factual ratings:
2000 Porsche 911 Consumer Review
I grew up around a Porsche's, Ferrari's, Vette's, and many exotics along with american stuff, Porsches were always counted on to win a race maybe not due to being the fastest, but the most consistent. Their racing heritage is proven, even this year they took the World Challege Speed GT class in mfg's cup. Le Mans they've provenmany times over. On the road, they're the same.
I'm not trying to sway you into loving Porsches, I'm not even a huge fan boy, I just know that they're very reliable cars and have been for decades.
Only real things that sucks, is when they DO break down, they cost an arm and a leg to repair, as with any exotic or German car might, for this people bitch and moan that their 100k+ car isn't perfect.
My uncle was a cheif mechanic at Aker's Porsche in Seattle for 35+ years, he hates the sight of them by now since he retired, but he'll always recommend a Porsche for the money you'd spend.

Not saying they're "bad" cars but to say they're one of the best in reliability is simply not true. I'm also not saying I wouldn't drive one in a heartbeat.
