It's been awhile since I have done any research on subwoofers. I currently have a MTX 8500 in a sealed box. I prefer more sql than spl and the 8500 didn't really satisfy it. I'm back in the market and looking for something not overly expensive but something that is great sounding.
I will be powering these subwoofers with a MTX TA81001. (1000wx1 @2ohms)
I have been looking at:
JL 13" W7 - I know someone selling far below the retail price but I heard that these suckers are power hungry.
IDMAX - There are tons of mix reviews for this sub so I really can't make a good decision.
some DD sub - I have no idea about DD but I heard they are great contenders with the IDmax and the W7.
I prefer to have a sealed enclosure since I have and SUV so I don't want it to be highschool-rattling loud but something where I can really beat when I want too.
I would prefer a 12".
So the veterans of this forum, tell me what you would do in my shoes.
IDMAX....I tried one but it was DOA. Bad experience and a long story but I still plan on giving it another shot.
DD....good SQ but the overwhelming majority of their stuff is SPL. That's not to say they don't sound good (because they do) but let's just say it's not THE priority of a DD woofer.
Honestly, my vote would be for the Peerless sub since I know it's wonderful. Plus, at about half the cost it's certainly a bargain. I modeled the sub out in 1.5cuft and it looks damn good!
The Xcon is a nice sub indeed....a bit pricey though at $375. Not saying it's not worth it but it's performance might not be realized in a normal everyday application.
The IDMAX 12" that I bought was $350 locally I believe. I'm going to get another one someday. The one I bought was flawed from the factory. I called up Eric Stevens and didn't have a problem returning it. They sent me another.
