The reason is, that this box can handle iPod/iPhone AND regular mp3 player. The only thing you have to do - if you are not having an iPod/iPhone yet but planing to buy one later - is to order an extra cable at GromAudio called (AUX RCA cable + 3.5 mm phone jack (Cable-AUX-C))
You will get this cable for just 5 bucks. This opens you the possibility to handle all kinds of players. The only thing you have to do when switching from other brand player to Apple products just replace the extra orderd RCA cable with the iPod docking cable.
It should be the same box, working with GROM as we speak on this. Trying to make it as direct as we can. I will post up more info ASAP.. The box should be 100% the same, just a ipod connector or aux .

my dream adaptor would allow DVD/video playback on the stock navi screen as well as aux in functions (e.g. zune or other players, i hate ipods and DRM crap)
Alright I'm about to order this, but I was wondering about one thing. On there website they state that you can scroll through your iPod while its hooked up, can you do this with the IS300? I know you can have 8 playlists or whatever, but my 30gb is completely full and I don't want to have to put it all into separate playlists. So what I'm asking is with the GROM iPod hookup can you fully control the iPod from the iPod while its hooked up?
The GromAudio interface knows a simple (select disk 1 to activate) and an advanced mode (select disk 2 - 7 to activate).
These modes differ in the following way:
Simple mode
allows to control iPod direct from its clicking wheel. Select your music from iPod and have it played. So select music from the whole 30 GB. In this mode the stock stereo can do the following things
- you can go track by track forwards/backwards in your manually selected playlist
- adjust volume
- charge the ipod
Advanced mode
- Disk 2-6 mapped to playlists you create on iPod. Full control from car stereo. The following information is displayed:
Disk #, Track #, time etc
- clicking wheel is locked - controll works completely over the OEM stereo controlls
- MIX, REPEAT work as usual
- SCAN allow to skip +-10 tracks for faster navigation
- Playlist positions are preserved for fast operation
- Shuffle songs, switch between tracks, playlists and adjust volume - all by using head unit controls
- ipod will be charged while connected
