you talking about the square cut out in the pictures.... cuz that is only because that's how my setup is... with the box steven built it isn't required...
Well you'd have to make some kind of cutout to lay the bottom flooring down. If you didn't you'd have a big plastic bottom with no flooring, or you'd have a sub underneath your flooring without the ability to breathe. Speakers are like lungs, you can't cover it up and not let it breathe so you'd have to cut the floor to allow the sub to look through.

well if that's the case i'm a little confused as to the point of this lol... so basically i made my enclosure that way to breath without even knowing it lol... good to know
A speaker is a lung. It breathes as it moves air. It produces sound waves just like your lungs produce the air for your mouth to produce sound. If you cover your mouth it muffles it, if you cover it with something thick enough it chokes completely. You are dealing with the same sound waves and the same air movement with that speaker as you are with your mouth. Imagine a speaker in your throat halfway between your mouth and lungs moving air and producing sound. Then imagine what would happen if you took your cardboard flooring and then the logo'd over mat and layed them over your mouth. By having the bottom already cut out, you just saved yourself the trouble of having to do it. Let's just say for the hell of it you attempted to lay the mat down over the sub, it wouldn't work for obvious reasons of low sound, but all you'd hear is the sub slapping the cardboard and mat around as it laid on top of it vibrating up and down. You're directly on top of a sub, there's no way to stop the air movment and avoid the vibration and if you did stop the air movement...... you stop the sound completely.
New these are a couple hundred bucks, but any junkyard should be able to set you up with a replacement floor for $40-70 I'd say so you could cut it.

i really didn't care about cutting mine up cuz obviously it has a 10" l7 in it lol... but i guess if i was to take it out i could get one from a junk yard or i could just cover it up with that floor mat for the trunk.. i don't ever plan on taking the sub out tho...
Again, CW, you've completely missed the point and have gone off on your own little tanget. This isn't for ultimate bass or the pinnacle in SQ. This setup is meant to sound good, drop right in, no worries, I just want some nice bass....setup. Do your single 15" setup in the spare well, I'd love to see it. However, that's not what this thread is about. Please keep it on topic.
As for the flooring. The trunk floor has some metal brace bars underneath it if you check under there. These are meant to bridge the large hole in there and support the floor. These raise the floor about an inch off the woofer face. I additionally, if you're worried about breathing room you could cut some smaller (1" diam) holes in the plastic part for some venting. Remember, LF waves travel through your rear seats, it wont even notice 1/4" carpet.

WTF? Where did that come from? I never said I was interested in a 15" install. I was TRYING to talk to you about the difference in airspace using the tire and not using the tire. It's obvious you have too much invested in this setup to have an unbiased conversation so I won't bother. You take anything short of "it's great slam one on me" as some type of negativity which is absurd. How left field and rude!
.....and if you think you're passing sound waves through that floor, especially without vibration, then I'm wasting my time here anyway. It won't work, period. I have 20 years invested and if you don't know that this won't work...... You can tell these people whatever you wish. I'll leave the thread.

I'm pretty sure nothing I said was mean in any way but if I offended you I'm terribly sorry. I was certain that you said something about doing a 15" install in the spare tire well and just sealing off the top and using the well as a box. I think it's a great idea (thought about it many times) but it's not feasible for most people who... A)Don't have the construction experience you have B) Like the spare right where it is and C) Aren't an SLP addict or SQ guru.
As for my "investment" in this it took about an hour of my time and materials I happen to keep on hand. So, if it works that's awesome, if not, it's not the end of the world for me. I just see about 30 "I want more bass" threads every month in this section and figured I'd solve the problem. I've actually done a system like this in the Subaru LegacyGT and it was awesome. They have a little more mounting depth than the IS300 guys so it was able to use "normal" woofers. However, the trunk mat covering was not a problem and theirs is solid plastic with another carpet over it as well. I believe theirs is actually hinged.
I'm F'n pumped. Get those guys to start cranking on the production sub so you get the AP vent figured!
CW - pretty sure this is a functional setup. it's not an detailed high-overhead cost box. I think ItalynStylion is trying to make something that's easy to produce and also would give the buyer an easy setup to plug and play. no doubt things could be changed to make it better - but the R&D might cost a lot more time and $$$. What do you think??

I'm going to send an email to Nick at Stereo Integrity and see if he thinks an AP vent would be applicable in this case and if it would be cost effective.
