I'm looking into a purchasing a 2009 IS 350 before the end of the year. I've found one at a dealer that has an MSRP of around $43,000 and is offered at $38,950 (before TTL).
The car has
--Premium package
--NAV
--Rear spoiler
--HID and AFL
--18" liquid graphite alloy wheels w/ all-season tires
--Accessory package: trunk mat, cargo net and wheel locks
Is this a good price considering the current state of the auto industry? Should I ask them to sweeten the deal in some way?
That's a good price dawg...but cash is King and your in the drivers seat. Not many people are buying now so low ball them down to 34K and see them sweat. They still make a profit off you and then you can spend 5K on some hot chix.
I hope I'm not jacking this thread when I ask this, but I had a very similar question drawn from the OPs question. I was curious as to what you (or anyone else) thought a lowball price would be for a 2008 Lexus IS 350? You had said to offer $34k for the 2009 based on the OP's best price of $38,950 (before TTL). I'm personally leaning towards saving money and going with an '08 and there are quite a few 2008 IS 350s around the DC area - all with (somewhat?) similar builds to the OP's 2009 IS - Luxury Package (Navigation - no ML), Parking Assist, Headlamp Washers, and Dealer Preferred Accessories.
The best price that I have had e-mailed to me is $37,450 + tax and fees, so about $1500 less than a 2009. So if the lowball price was $34k for that, maybe $32k would be the lowball price for an '08?
I'd like to hit up some dealers tomorrow (who are open) and the rest on Friday and make a sound decision after gathering final numbers. But I would like a low, ridiculous - but not too ridiculous - price to keep in mind while I'm at the dealer and talking.

Go ahead and try it.
It won't hurt your pocket book!
Plus... The dealer may be desperate for some business.
It makes me regret buying my IS350 a couple months ago and not waiting... Right now, it's a buyer's market, so enjoy your bargaining power.

Thanks for the feedback AznStrike. Let's see what happens over the next couple days as I visit the local dealers. four of them have 2008 IS 350s for a total of 10 between all of them. I have my preferences but at the end of the day, I'd be happy with any of them really. If anyone has any numbers to keep in mind, please do let me know.

Good luck and keep us posted! Hope to see you among the IS350 owners!
Wow, so you have a nice selection! Maybe you can have them try to compete against one another for the prices.
For the prices, I got my '08 IS350 (w/ 5k miles) equipped with the premium package and NAV for around 34.5k w/o tax and fees. However, this was back in August before the auto industry made a huge plummet. I hope this will let you get a general idea for the pricing. Plus... Don't forget that it is the end of the year, and the dealership needs to clear their '08 selection. Depreciation affects them too.

Thanks for the info AznStrike. Let's see what I can do with it. Hope to be part of the IS 350 owners too!
I posted an update on my 2008 IS 350 search over in the Left over 08 is350 pricing??? thread case anyone's interested - I didn't want to take this thread too far off topic. One more off-topic point - I drove a used IS-F while at a dealer today that they had on their lot. Pretty sick, I wish it was somewhat closer to the price of a new IS 350, but that's just not going to happen.
Could have gotten new 2008 Silver/Tungsten IS 350 w/ Luxury Package & XM for $34,500

AznStrike, you commented on my new 2008 IS 350 purchase over in the Tell us what you got. thread. I thought I'd reply to this post where you were taking about a buyer's market - To quickly recap, my IS 350 was $36,850 w/ XM included. It's in Smoky Granite Mica w/ Sports Package (which has Navi), Rear lip spoiler, parking assist, headlamp washers, and dealer preferred accessories.
Well, I e-mailed the other dealer I was talking to (Lexus of Annapolis) to let them know that I was sorry, but I went ahead with the sale at the other dealer because they had the car in the color and build I preferred (it was a nice e-mail because Lexus of Annapolis had been really friendly with me and I really did want to buy from them if I could have).
lol, Lexus of Annapolis just replied and said they're sorry it didn't work out too, but they were willing to go as low as $34,500 for getting rid of their 2008 IS 350 Silver/Tungsten w/ Luxury Package.
I still dont' feel too bad because I did prefer the Smoky Granite Mica color and the Sports package, but man.. if anyone likes the Silver Tungsten color w/ luxury package, I suggest giving a Lexus of Annapolis a ring.
Thank all of you for your responses, but alas, I have gone to the dark side.
My search for a new car had been narrowed down to the 09 IS350 (a fabulous car) and the 09 BMW 128i (ditto) but with leanings toward the Lexus for a lot of reasons including 128i's lack of availability, BMW dealerships' responses and lack of good deals.
I went by a BMW dealer to look at color that I was interested in, Cashmere Silver--a nice variation of a traditional silver but it was on a 135i and, although I had driven the 135i, I felt it was too powerful for me. But it was equipped just the way I wanted it, so I tried another test drive. And I really liked it the second time around!
So on New Year's Eve, trying to take advantage of month/year end dealer anxieties, I negotiated back and forth between the Lexus and BMW dealers and after a lot of personal angst, I finally settled on the 135i.
Why? Well it was variety of things including price, equipment and color. I think the thing that pushed it over the edge was the fact that it was a coupe and overall smaller than the IS.
Regardless, thanks for all your input. Hope to see you around in 4-5 years when I'll be hunting that new IS 450 hybrid that should be available by then!

Congrats on your purchase man!
I hope you enjoy your BMW 135i.
It's probably a better modifying/tuning platform than the IS.
However, I went with the IS over the 1 series when I narrowed it down between these cars.
